A whole new crop of homebuyers emerges every year. With interest rates remaining relatively low, more interested buyers than ever before are applying for home mortgage loans. The advantage goes to the seller when there are more buyers than homes for sale. But in a market where the inventory of homes is growing, the competition between sellers increases and gives buyers more options. More competition is not a problem if the local market is moving at a lively pace. It has definitely become a  buyers market with the current inventory level and decreased home prices. Home prices will rebound as this is a normal cyclical  period in real estate. Just remember, in a seller's market- home inventories are low and home prices are high, in a buyer's market- inventories of homes are higher and home prices drop lower. Sellers, who have a home to sell, may make a bit less on the sale but see the advantage of being able to buy a bigger or more expensive home at a lower interest rate.
